Capt. David O. Hussey

Captain David Hussey is the Vice President of Operations at Liberty Maritime Corporation. He is responsible for the operation and chartering of the company’s bulk carriers which range in size from 50,000 DWT to 64,000 DWT. Prior to joining Liberty in 1988, Captain Hussey served in all deck officer positions on numerous bulk carriers and tanker vessels operated by APEX Marine and, most notably, sailed as Master on the M/V Liberty Sun.

During his 21 year tenure with Liberty, Captain Hussey performed various roles in the company’s Chartering and Insurance Departments, and eventually progressed to the position of Port Captain. He also was responsible for the management of Liberty’s Purchasing and Personnel Departments before he transitioned into the Assistant Vice President of Operations. In 2006, he was promoted to his current position as Vice President of Operations.

Captain Hussey was born on February 14, 1951 in Alexandria, Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University for two years before transferring to Texas Maritime College in Galveston, Texas, an affiliate of Texas A&M University. Captain Hussey graduated from Texas Maritime College in 1977. Captain Hussey is a member of the National Cargo Bureau and the Marine Society of the City of New York.
